World Cup 2010 qualification .



See who's in and who missed out on a chance to play in South Africa.
 
The World Cup is a tournament unlike any other, so it is no surprise that the qualification process takes two years and occurs on nearly every continent in the world. With the long process beginning in November 2008, a true collection of the world's 32 best soccer nations will emerge for the 19th World Cup in South Africa in June and July of 2010.

New Zealand won the Oceania Region, then beat Bahrain, the fifth-place team from ACF, in a two-game playoff for a 2010 World Cup bid.

* The fourth-place team from CONCACAF played the fifth-place team from CONMABOL for the last spot.

** CAF gets five bids for the World Cup, plus an automatic bid for host country South Africa.

*** The winner of stage 5 (5th place) played the winner of the Oceania Region in the inter-confederation play-off for the remaining World Cup qualifying bid.
